Radians > Academics > Science

The goal of Radians School’s Course of Study is to achieve scientific literacy through STREAM-based and non-traditional strategies. The National Science Education Standards define scientific literacy as “the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and processes required for scientific decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity”. Science classes at Radians School are imparted in English.

These elements of non-traditional education have been termed “student-centered” approaches, and while in extreme forms they have sometimes been separated, in the thought of John Dewey and other major theorists, they are seen as being necessarily related to each other. Students “learn by doing.” Independent research is emphasized, and student engagement promotes student learning. Our desire is to ignite a passion for the sciences by allowing the student to discover the connections that science has in his daily life. By exploring pertinence, students will be motivated to use the scientific knowledge acquired in creative ways.

Radians School’s program objectives are that students:

  • Develop an attitude of curiosity towards the world in which he/she lives and to develop the capacity of formulating questions about the problems in it.
  • Understand the fundamental concepts and principles of science and use these to explain natural phenomena.
  • Identify and solve problems.
  • Reason scientifically and develop decision making skills, individually and in group based on valid evidence.
