Singapore Math

Radians > Programs > Singapore Math

The Singapore math curriculum has been adopted at Radians School Pre School, elementary and middle school, up to the sixth grade. The essence of this curriculum is to adapt content to provide time for activities which promote critical and creative thinking and to enable students to use technology. All levels learn using the three stages. First, the CONCRETE (manipulatives, problems solving, drawings and pictures), then, they go through the PICTORICAL stage (make diagrams, graphs, bar models) and the last part is the ABSTRACT, that means the algorithms. The emphasis is placed on the acquisition of process skills to ensure mastery of core knowledge and concepts that give students the basis for further learning. The goal of this curriculum is to enable students to develop their ability in mathematical problem solving. The attainment of this problem-solving ability is dependent on five interrelated components: concepts, skills, processes, attitudes, and metacognition.
